The river behind the hotel was used for the first release of rainbow trout into the wild in New Zealand, before taking fingerlings to Rotorua and Taupo. Our district is riddled with streams of varying water volumes, all carrying trout. Rainbows mostly, but there is some excellent brown trout fishing to be had.

Okoroire district is also shadowed by the Kaimai and Mamaku ranges both of which have an abundance of wild pig and deer hunting (not 5 minutes drive form the hotel in some cases).

There are also duck and upland game shooting in the district. A veritable hunting/fishing paradise really!
